CELEBRATE OUR 50 YEAR ANNIVERSARY WITH US

Fifty years after they opened a small salon in Poulton-le-Fylde, David and Sylvia Woods’ family is celebrating 50 years of success — an award-winning family hairdressing and beauty business that has flourished through decades of changing styles
As a young man in Blackpool David started hairdressing in 1959 at Pye Hairdressers, which has been the site of the original Funny Girls in Queen Street. David met Sylvia Maria in 1964. They married in 1966 and opened their first salon the same year on 6 June.
Blackpool was a wonderful thriving town full of personalities and visiting stars. One of David and most famous was Shirley Bassey, who requested them to style her hair in her dressing room when performing at the Opera House. Comedians Bobby Davro and Freddie Star were regulars when in town. The list goes on to include several MPs, including Harold Wilson and his wife, who were frequent visitors when on the campaign trail.
Daughters Deborah, Claire and Rachel were roped in to help; "We would sweep the floors, shampoo, brush down the customers," Rachel said. are now following in their footsteps. The wider family includes more than 100 apprentices and stylists trained at David Marias."Many of them are successfully running businesses around the world and teaching, so we feel very proud," David said.
Owner David credits the businesses success to their customers and staff. "We have good wonderful customers and staff and we want to thank all who have made David Marias what it is today” Some of our clients from the early days still come to us and many of our present staff have remained with us 20,30 and even 40 years.

David and Sylvia are planning a celebration with their friends, family and especially their customers and staff, on June 7th, 2016.

A prize draw for gift certificates will be held the day of the event and one lucky winner will receive free hair and beauty treatments for a year! Beauty demonstrations and free mini treatments with donations in aid of Donnas Dream House will be available from 10-4pm.
